Honestly, the fact that they got this to work decently with the Move controllers at all, which weren't designed with VR in mind, and have no thumbsticks, is a miracle in itself. They redesigned UI elements to work better, they added independent hand control for combat & spell casting, "virtual archery" with the Move controllers, and POV aiming if you prefer to use the Dualshock. You can choose between motion by teleportation or "direct movement", rotation by snapping to fixed angles or smooth rotation, speed sliders for all of those, and field-of-view limiters (vignetting on the edges) during motion, rotation, or both (and sliders for how much vignetting). Might consider buying it down the line.īethesda put a tremendous amount of thought into the PSVR implementation of Skyrim. Glad to see 1) and 2) weren't an issue for you.

I wasn't really looking forward to Skyrim that much because 1) I played the base game to death, 2) worried about nausea and how they implemented locomotion, and 3) lack of mod support afaik (really like the one that added hypothermia and cold weather survival into the game).

There's a big step-down in graphics for the PSVR version (one commenter said it looks like a bad PS3 game on the Pro, and a good PS2 game on the base PS4), but once you're in the world it's easy to overlook that, and the whole experience is so extraordinary that I honestly can't imagine going back to playing the game on a flat screen. It's genuinely transformative to be in the world, rather than watching it through a monitor-sized window.
I put over 150 hours into the flat version of Skyrim, but the VR version, while still exactly the same game, feels like a new experience. Fallout 4 VR is coming to Steam in a week, and based on my Skyrim experience, I'd strongly recommend people who may have already played Fallout 4 still think about picking up the VR version.
I've been gobbling up Skyrim on PSVR since it came out - over the weekend, I actually put in sessions of six- or seven hours (I'll admit to being a little wobbly-legged when I came out from under the headset). CPU is an i7 4400k so fourth gen, seems like the videocard /gpu makes most of the difference. If anyone is interested any hearing about any of these let me know I can try them out and post impressions. Rez Infinite was pretty cool, Redot was just okay for me. Eve Valkyrie was cool but I needed to reset the sensors or something because the cockpit was above me and to the left. About all I've tried so far is Lucky's tale which was okay and EVE: Valkyrie. I think I have another game or two on steam that play. So until I can get the interior framed out can't do much with it for a gaming space. I'm still building my cabin and I have a lot of dogs (rescue/breeding/boarding). Still not had much of a chance to mess with it. I bought an oculus rift along a with a 1080ti this summer. Oculus Home is hot wet garbage frankly so I hope Dash is a massive improvement. However I'll never play racing or flying games on my monitor ever again (unless I build a triple monitor setup someday). That can really fuck with your head.Īs for racing, yeah the DoF in VR sucks. The only thing that makes me wobble is the Aircar demo. I guess I should have turned on the greyout feature but it took me a good while to get used to it myself. After a few minutes they had to take a break. She really liked Medium though, along with Luckys Tale and Dreamdeck.īoth didn't like Google Earth at all. He loved Robo Recall and bullet storm and was having a blast, my 11 year old niece not so much. They both loved the First Contact demo, my 17 year old nephew who's 6' 1" or more (gets it from his dad) was really going at it, just grabbing things and trying to throw them in the trashcan. My niece and nephew visited for Thanksgiving and they immediately made a run to my gaming room to try the Oculus.
